Unloading and Unpacking Tips

The last big step of the moving logistics is the unloading and unpacking of your goods from the transport vehicles to your new home. Although it may have been an energy consuming journey up until now and your power supply and patience may be a bit depleted, there is nothing like finally stand in the middle of the new home with the exciting opportunity to bring in your belongings, unpack them and position them in the right place. However, be warned, because unless you keep things organized your new, fresh beginning can turn into a messy, never ending nightmare.

Before your things arrive, take a quick look at your new home and see if it needs any last minute cleaning or fixing. If you have not taken care of this, this is a perfect time do so. If everything has been taken care of, proceed to draw a plan of each of the rooms and think of the best way to arrange your furniture and belongings in them before the transport vehicle arrives with them. This simple step will save you a lot of time and should serve as a visual unloading and unpacking plan.

Another pre-unloading preparation entails having a clear, practical plan for what is going to be eaten at lunch. Have in mind that most likely you will forget about eating until you are too hungry to start thinking about it. Therefore, have ready the phones of a couple of simple, fast food delivery places you are familiar with so you do not waste time thinking about the menu or picking up your lunch. In addition, make sure you have plenty to drink and essential toiletries before you begin unloading/unpacking.

Now that the transport vehicle is parked out side and your new house is ready for your personal effects to transform it, open the doors to every single room and make sure they will keep open by placing stoppers on them. Now, you can begin unloading. Divide the unloading in several stretches; have any heavy or massive furniture (like beds, refrigerators, cupboards, dinning table, etc) unloaded first and placed them at once at the spot you have assigned them in your “floor plan”.

Now that the basis of your home is ready, bring to each room the boxes that belong to that particular quarter and settle them down right next to the place where they should be placed. Once you are finished with this and the truck is empty, decide which of the rooms you should unpack first. As a rule of thumb, the kitchen and the bathroom(s) should go first, then the bedrooms, the living rooms and the dinning room. Proceed to open the boxes and arrange the items in place. Keep things tidy by immediately disposing of any packing materials properly. Stack flat the carton boxes and throw bubble wrap, tape, paper, etc in garbage bags.

In a couple of hours, the empty spaces should be transformed into your new quarters. Good luck and welcome home.
